The first event took place at an Italian Restaurant Maruzzella where we had 20 people from 13 different nationalities and there were students from IMBA, Spanish MBA and Executive MBA. Everybody enjoyed the dinner and the possibility of meeting different students from IE MBAs and IMBA sections. .

- Promoting and Organizing the ‘’Speakers’’ from IE alumni who work in different sectors and who have experience in the oversea business development.

El objetivo del club es pasar un rato agradable con nuestros amigos bailando TANGO y socializar con la comunidad de Tango de Madrid.

Our activities will involve:

•Intensive Tango Workshops (weekends): These workshops will be planned to learn as more as possible in a short-time period and they will include three types of the dance: Tango, Milonga and Tango-Vals. (The first intensive program will be in the 27th of January 2007).

•Weekly Classes (weekdays): For the people who want to improve more and dance regularly, there will be weekly classes given by the well-known instructors of Madrid. (They are planned to start in the first week of February).

•Milonga Nights: “Milonga” is the name of both a kind of dance music and the event/place where people dance tango during the night. They are usually organized in bars, pubs, hotels, restaurants and also in some open air locals. Most of the people who come to a milonga try to dance with as many people as possible even though they don’t know each other. They generally dance at least 3-4 songs with each partner and they use the time between songs to chat and know the partner. In Madrid, there are more than 15 milonga nights each week. So, we’ll visit different milongas each time. (Starting from the Saturday-27th January, we will go to a milonga each week in a different place and day).

•SITGES TANGO FESTIVAL July 2007: Tango and the beach!!! One of the most famous tango festivals in Europe. Sitges is a small town near Barcelona where they organize this wonderful festival every summer. This year’s festival will be in 18- 22 July. It will be a nice opportunity for us to travel, dance and enjoy the summer! For more information and photos from the previous years, you can see the links below:

Nuestras actividades implicarán:

•Talleres intensivos de Tango (fines de semana): Estos talleres serán planeados para aprender tanto como sea posible a corto plazo e incluiremos tres tipos de la danza: Tango, Milonga y Tango-Vals. (el primer programa intensivo estará en el 27 de enero de 2007).

•Clases semanales (días laborables): Para la gente que desea mejorar más y bailar regularmente, habrá clases semanales dadas por instructores bien conocidos de Madrid. (los planean para comenzar en la primera semana de febrero).

•Noches De Milonga: "Milonga" es el nombre de un tipo de música de danza y del evento/lugar donde la gente baila tango durante la noche. La organizan generalmente en hoteles, restaurantes y también en algunos locales abiertos al aire libre. La mayoría de la gente que viene a una milonga, intenta bailar con cada persona aunque no se conocían antes. Se bailan generalmente por lo menos 3-4 canciones con cada persona y se utilizan el tiempo entre las canciones para charlar y conocer a otra persona. En Madrid, hay más de 15 milongas cada semana. Así pues, visitaremos diversas milongas cada vez. (empezando el Sábado-27 de enero, iremos a una milonga cada semana en un lugar diferente).

•FESTIVAL de TANGO de SITGES Julio De 2007: ¡Tango y playa!!! Uno de los festivales más famosos del tango de Europa. Sitges es una ciudad pequeña cerca de Barcelona en donde organizan este maravilloso festival cada verano. El festival relativo a este año será entre el 18- 22 de julio. ¡Será una oportunidad agradable para que viajemos, bailemos y disfrutemos del verano! On 19 December, 56 IE students from the International MBA, the Spanish MBA and the MBA for Professionals making up the top 20% of their graduating class, were inducted into the Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS) Honor Society, an organization that awards top business students enrolled in programs accredited by AACSB International.

The 2006 BGS Inductees of IE Business School

Beta Gamma Sigma was established in the US in 1913 with the aim of fostering and promoting excellence in the study and practice of business throughout the world. The organization is rooted on the founding principles of honor, integrity and the pursuit of wisdom, and supports the advancement of business thought at the individual and societal levels. At present, more than 300 universities are members of this renowned international organization.

In December 2003, IE Business School became the first Collegiate Chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma in Europe. To date, nearly 300 IE students and seven professors have been inducted into the BGS Honor Society.

El pasado 14 de Diciembre 2006, el Instituto de Empresa a través de un grupo selecto de empresarios, alumnos y docentes, y dentro del Club de Amigos de Colombia, puso en práctica una idea liderada por Margarita Velásquez para promover la relación con Colombia, para ello se organizó un primer foro que permitió crear un espacio donde se integraran la realidad del país con el aporte académico.

La convocatoria fue todo un éxito, tuvimos a 60 personas que aparte de tomarse un buen café "JUAN VALDEZ" con el cual las tiendas Juan Valdez en Madrid se vinculó al evento, aprovecharon las excelentes intervenciones de los ponentes.

Fue una muy buena oportunidad para impulsar el Club de Amigos de Colombia, cuyo principal objetivo es unir a aquellas personas que de una u otra forma tienen relaciones con Colombia, desarrollar network, dado que estuvo abierto a todos los alumnos, antiguos alumnos y empresarios que están interesados en el país.

Se contó con dirigentes que nos ayudaron a obtener la visión actual de Colombia frente al resto del mundo, a través de un foro de discusión en el que participó ProExport y el Instituto de Empresa, donde se quiso además contar con todos aquellos que de una u otra forma son “Amigos de Colombia”, con lo cual parte de los asistentes eran de otras nacionalidades, en algunos casos conocedores y en otros ansiosos por conocer Colombia.

La primera edición del FORO AMIGOS DE COLOMBIA - REALIDAD Y OPORTUNIDADES, comenzó con un foro de discusión moderado por D. Antonio Díaz Morales, Subdirector General del IE, quien hace poco volvió de Colombia después de reunirse con los presidentes de las más grandes empresas del país y quién nos aportó su visión crítica, académica y empresarial. Contamos también con la presencia de Hugo Villegas actual Director General de Johnson & Johnson Medical España y Ricardo Lozano Director de PROEXPORT COLOMBIA, quienes amablemente nos transmitieron su experiencia en España, su visión y resolvieron las múltiples inquietudes de los participantes. La jornada terminó con el valioso aporte de D. Mauricio Campillo anterior Presidente de la Alianza TEAM S.A, actual alumno del Internacional Executive MBA en el Instituto de Empresa quien dictó la conferencia, “Tratado de Libre Comercio EEUU – Colombia, aspectos relevantes”.

El Open Internacional de kárate de Rivas llega a su quinta edición

As students of IE and citizens of the world, you must be aware of the impact India has had on the global economy in recent years and the consequent tremendous opportunities & possibilities in almost every major field that India offers. It is important to further spread this awareness among students and other interested participants, specifically in the areas of investment and career opportunities in India. Hence, the formation of "The Club of India".

This club will be make available relevant information about the business and cultural environment prevailing in India in order to foster a sense of familiarity in those who seek to explore India as an option, in whatever respect. We have been fortunate to have the support of IE and the Indian Embassy in Spain to aid us in our objectives. We believe that their joint patronage is symbolic of IE’s relationship with other countries, as IE proves every year with the astounding diversity of its intake.

As mentioned, The Club of India will seek to provide comprehensive information about India to the entire IE community. The objectives of the club are as follows:
•Increase awareness of Indian industries & culture at IE and in Spain.
•Co-ordinate activities between Indian business schools and IE.
•Plan and co-ordinate the activities between Indian and Spanish Embassies.
•Create a platform for increasing interaction between Spanish and Indian business houses and industry associations.
•Co-ordinate with other academic and cultural clubs to organize activities focused towards India.

Last month we were invited by the Embassy of India to visit Valladolid at the opening ceremony of “Casa de la India”, a platform to promote the development of the relations between India and Spain in the cultural, social and institutional ambits. The event was presided over by the Minister of Foreign Affairs “The Government of India” and was followed by the spell bound “Sitar” performance by Ms. Anoushka Shankar.

IE also hosted the Indian Minister of Foreign affairs on its campus. The photograph is available on the website of IE.

Dear students, staff and teachers,

We are pleased to inform you of the creation of the WoMen in Business Club (WIB) at Instituto de Empresa.

This is a not just a club for women , but is an association for men and women working and interacting in the business environment and who would like to share information and exchange professional experiences within the club.

We will hold our first meeting in January the 9th at 18:00 in B-203 . In the meantime, we strongly encourage any suggestions you would like to make in regards to the club and the direction it should take this year. Please feel free to send us these recommendations via e-mail.

This club has two main goals:

1/ WIB – Women in Business club: Together with alumni, WIB will organize activities and events in which women and men are invited to participate. Ie. Inviting a speaker to IE to give a speech or course on his/her personal professional experience or organise a workshop on a specific issue to discuss within a group of members.

2/ EPWN – European Professional Women Network. This a unique on-line networking and learning community for women and companies seeking to promote women’s professional progress. The current activity is more a social event whereby business women meet once/twice a month to share their experiences and to increase their network of contacts. The meetings are used to foster relationships between women from various backgrounds, and exchange personal experiences in the business world. You can register at http://www.europeanpwn.net/ .
