El panel de ponentes, integrado por Alejandro González Pons (Embajador de la Rep. Dominicana en España), Juan Temístocles Montás (Secretario de Estado de Economía, Planificación y Cooperación), y Gonzalo Garland (Profesor de Economía y Director de Relaciones Externas del IE) -en este orden en la foto, de izda a dcha-, atrajo una amplísima audiencia.

La intervención del Secretario de Estado versó fundamentalmente sobre el alcance y expectativas generadas para la República Dominicana por el Tratado de Libre Comercio (DR-CAFTA-US). Juan Temístocles Montás concluyó con las siguientes palabras: "Para nosotros es trascendental el tener la oportunidad de explicarles las expectativas del DR-CAFTA-US a una audiencia tan rica de inversionistas españoles y estudiantes del IE, los cuales próximamente serán los líderes empresariales que tomarán las decisiones sobre inversiones en el extranjero. Con esto en mente, estamos profundamente agradecidos con el Club de Dominicanos del IE por haber convertido el evento de esta noche en una realidad".

On Monday 16th of April, Federico Gentili and Pablo Gómez from ValuePartners came to IE directly from Rome (Italy) in order to share their experience on how to create value. The attendance showed a lot of interest on the question of how to leverage the potential of growing economies such as China and India.

In order to answer those questions, the speakers used the projects ValuePartners is working on to show the critical importance of knowing who are creating value for.

Finally, the IE Consulting Club helped IE to set up a new relationship with a growing consulting firm, ValuePartners.

IE's MBA and LLM students and alumni met with the International Advisory Board in order to talk about their backgrounds, interests and future career possibilities.

A big player in the telecom European market, Deutsche Telekom, was the second guest for the TechIE Club.

On the 28th of March, we received Stefan Behrendt, Senior VP for Corporate Development & International Business in T-Online, now part of Deutsche Telekom. Mr. Behrendt gave a detailed presentation of how the Telecom market is today being mixed with the internet business.

Lots of players converging like: operators, hardware and software vendors, service retailers, media companies, IT services providers, device manufacturers, infrastructure builders and finally lots of internet companies, leveraging specially the web 2.0 movement.

That's changing the way business is being done, as corporations are switching its former vertical structure with different business lines into a more horizontal one, involving most of the actors in the value chain.

Last 26th of March we had the opportunity of attending an event about Business in China. Both Global Business Environment (GBE) and TechIE Clubs were hosting this conference that awakened the interest of more than twenty IE students.

The schedule included an introductory presentation of China made by William Wang (IMBA07), from GBE Club. Then Fernando Cortiñas, IE professor and Telefonica employee, introduced us to Zuo Feng, president of China Netcom Broadband Online. He explained how the telecom market in China is developing.

We could see that Chinese market is [...]

evolving at a good speed pace, while it's still maturing and far from European market penetration rates. Therefore in such a vast country opportunities for growth are high. At the moment there are only Chinese players in the field: China Telecom, China Unicom, China Mobile, China Netcom. But foreign investment is expected to grow as well. We could learn also about specific internet and telecom cases and references to companies such as Yahoo BB, the equipment vendors ZTE & Huawei (that are striking the market with their low prices) and the Japanese NTT Docomo.

EL I torneo de Pádel del Instituto de Empresa se celebró en el Polideportivo

EL torneo se disputó en una primera fase en formato de liguilla con 4 grupos de 4 parejas, los cuales jugaron partidos de un set entre sí, una vez concluido los 3 partidos por grupo, se paso a la segunda fase, juntando a los primeros en un grupo, a los segundos en otro grupo, etc.

Tras concluir la segunda fase conocimos el resultado final:

I Padel Tournament was held in "el estudiante" sports center and it was consisted of 16 padel teams with IE´s people.

The tournament was competed in a first round with 4 league with 4 teams, after this, another league with the champions of each group, second, third, ...
