Activities of IE -TANGO CLUB for this year!!!

·       Intensive Tango Workshops: These workshops will be planned to learn as much as possible in a short-time period and they will include three types of the dance: Tango, Milonga and Tango-Vals. (The first intensive program will be in the 24^th of October 2009- the information will be sent shortly).

·       Weekly Classes: For the people who want to improve more and dance regularly, there will be weekly classes given by the well-known instructors of Madrid (Weekly classes will start in January 2010. The people who start with the intensive workshops this month will be able to decide on continuing with intensives or weekly classes after January).

·       Milonga Nights: "Milonga" is the name of both a kind of dance music and the event/place where people dance tango during the night. They are usually organized in bars, pubs, hotels, restaurants and also in some open air locals. Most of the people who come to a milonga try to dance with as many people as possible even though they don't know each other. They generally dance at least 3-4 songs with each partner and they use the time between songs to chat and know the partner. In Madrid, there are more than 15 milonga nights each week. So, we'll visit different milongas each time (Starting from October, 29^th we will go to a milonga each week in a different place and day).

·       Surprise "IE-Tango Club" shows: Before the summer holiday, we plan to perform in some special IE events. Performers will be the people joining to the classes during the year.  (Our surprise show in 2008 was the show in IE Global Village event, and in 2009 we had a performance in Off DutIE Party. ·       SITGES TANGO FESTIVAL-July 2010:  Tango and the beach!!! One of the most famous tango festivals in Europe. Sitges is a small town near Barcelona where they organize this wonderful festival every summer. It will be a nice opportunity for us to travel, dance and enjoy the summer!

·       Talleres intensivos de Tango: Estos talleres serán planeados para aprender tanto como sea posible a corto plazo e incluiremos tres tipos de la danza: Tango, Milonga y Tango-Vals (El primer programa intensivo será en el 24 de octubre de 2009- lo vamos a anunciar muy pronto).

·       Clases semanales: Para la gente que desea mejorar más y bailar regularmente, habrá clases semanales dadas por instructores bien conocidos de Madrid (Las clases semanales comenzaran a partir de Enero 2010. Los que empiezan este mes con los intensivos podrán seguir con los intensivos o clases semanales despues de enero).

·       Noches De Milonga: "Milonga" es el nombre de un tipo de música de danza y del evento/lugar donde la gente baila tango durante la noche. La organizan generalmente en hoteles, restaurantes y también en algunos locales abiertos al aire libre. La mayoría de la gente que viene a una milonga, intenta bailar con cada persona aunque no se conocían antes. Se bailan generalmente por lo menos 3-4 canciones con cada persona y se utilizan el tiempo entre las canciones para charlar y conocer a otra persona. En Madrid, hay más de 15 milongas cada semana. Así pues, visitaremos diversas milongas cada vez. (empezando el dia 29 de octubre, iremos a una milonga cada semana en un lugar diferente).

·       Demostraciones sorpresas del "IE-Tango Club": Planeamos actuar en algunos eventos del IE antes de las vacaciones del verano.  Las personas que participan a las clases durante el año, podrán actuar en estas demostraciones (Nuestra demostracion sorpresa en 2008 fue la del evento de IE Global Village y en 2009 fue en la fiesta Off DutIE. ·       FESTIVAL de TANGO de SITGES- Julio 2010: ¡Tango y playa!!! Uno de los festivales más famosos del tango de Europa. Sitges es una ciudad pequeña cerca de Barcelona en donde organizan este maravilloso festival cada verano. ¡Será una oportunidad agradable para que viajemos, bailemos y disfrutemos del verano!

The IE Tango Club has been slow to get going this year.  We were unfortunate to lose our very own professor in Burak due to his recent sojourn in the US.  In the meantime, we have been pursuing classes with his partner, Carmen.  Due to the poor attendance at the last workshop it has not been possible to organise more classes specifically for IE students, however the die-hards have remained true to the cause.

Now there is a new opportunity and the IE Tango Club would like to invite all of you have come previously, plus all of the new students that are interested in learning this exciting and senual dance.

El Tango es un baile que es mucho más que eso. Es un sentimiento que te impregna, haciéndote vibrar con la música y con el otro, es un juego de dos: las miradas se cruzan, uno y otro se escuchan, abrazo..., respiro la calma hasta que uno propone y el otro va, confiando en el otro, sintiéndole, compartiendo todo lo que me invade en ese momento, latiendo con la música en ese único abrazo.

Todo esto es un aprendizaje.

En este Intensivo puntualizaremos y trabajaremos la postura correcta junto al equilibrio, eje-centro-tierra-aire para tener un baile fácil, las conexiones con nuestro cuerpo y la conexión con el otro, pasando después al entendimiento de diferentes herramientas y del Tango : los pesos, la caminada, cambios de frente, cruzadas y ochos entre los más destacados.

Estas herramientas las colocaremos después de diferentes formas para practicar, dialogar, jugar y bailar con nuestra pareja.

En definitiva trabajamos la técnica para un buen baile pero sin olvidar la música y teniendo como fin llegar al alma de este baile.

Now a few notes from me:

• This class is not exclusively for IE.  Carmen is arranging it and I am telling you about it.
• The class will be in Spanish.  Well, you wanted to learn Spanish too, right?
• €55!!  2 days!!  Yes, well believe me, it makes sense.  Tango is quite a technical dance.  You will need quite a few basics to start enjoying it.  But it is worth the effort.  I think this is a great way to get going quickly.

This course is not exclusive for IE.  I had planned to organize one, but I was too busy with exams.  Carmen has told me about this one and I am advertising it.  I really strongly encourage anyone interested to sign up, because I cannot think of a better way to start and at less than €10/hr it is not expensive.

The class will be in Spanish, but this is not a problem, trust me.  I do not speak Spanish well and I did many dancing classes in Spanish before I learned any Spanish (tango, like all the best dancing, is in Spanish!).  Remember that dancing is not about talking, but about moving your body.  Watch and learn.  However, if it is bothering you, remember that if there are a group of IE people, there is probably someone who can translate for you a bit.

I have been taking classes in tango for about 5 years and I have to say that Carmen (with Burak, of course) is the best and nicest teacher I have ever had.  I have seen her dancing at milongas in Madrid and she is a great dancer too.  She will make sure that you get the technique and is very patient when explaining, even if the language is a problem.  I have been attending Carmen´s classes since February and my tango has improved a lot!

I encourage you to contact Carmen directly.  There are more details on her website and you can email her (usually easier if you have trouble with speaking Spanish on the phone).  Be aware a deposit is required.

If you have any questions, please contact me.  I will try to answer them.  If you are already a top notch tango dancer, let me know and we can organize to visit some milongas.  Those taking the beginners workshop should be able to join us for the milongas also.  We would like some help on the committee of the club, so we will soon have a general meeting where people interested in helping out can come and volunteer.

The Tango club is happy to announce the first activity of the IE Tango Club for 2008! First, let's take a look at our program for this year:
* Saturday, 19th of January we are going to start with an intensive tango workshop for total beginners (see the announcement below). If you've ever wanted to learn to tango, this is your opportunity!
* For those of you who want to learn more after the workshop has ended, there will be weekly classes starting in February. (Classes for all other levels will be offered as well.)
* Although we'll normally be dancing at different tango spots (milongas) in Madrid, in March and May we are going to organize tango trips to Italy and Portugal, in order to dance in different atmospheres. Also, in July we'll attend the Sitges Tango Festival.

Me complace anunciaros la primera actividad de 2008 del IE-Tango Club! Primero, quiero recordaros nuestro programa para 2008:
* El sábado 19 de enero, comenzamos con un curso intensivo de tango para principiantes (se puede ver el anuncio abajo). Asi que, si queréis empezar a aprender tango, esta es la oportunidad!
* Para la gente que quiere aprender más después del primer curso, haremos clases semanales a partir de febrero. También, habrá clases regulares para otros niveles próximamente.

· Talleres intensivos de Tango: Estos talleres serán planeados para aprender tanto como sea posible a corto plazo e incluiremos tres variedades de la danza: Tango, Milonga y Tango-Vals. (el primer programa intensivo será en el 6 de octubre de 2007).
· Clases semanales: Para la gente que desea mejorar más y bailar regularmente, habrá clases semanales dadas por instructores bien conocidos de Madrid.
· Noches De Milonga: "Milonga" es el nombre de un tipo de música de danza y del evento/lugar donde la gente baila tango durante la noche. La organizan generalmente en hoteles, restaurantes y también en algunos locales abiertos al aire libre. La mayoría de la gente que viene a una milonga, intenta bailar con cada persona aunque no se conocían antes. Se bailan generalmente por lo menos 3-4 canciones con cada persona y se utilizan el tiempo entre las canciones para charlar y conocer a otra persona. En Madrid, hay más de 15 milongas cada semana. Así pues, visitaremos diversas milongas cada vez. (empezando el sábado-6 de octubre, iremos a una milonga cada semana en un lugar diferente).
· Demostraciones sorpresas del “IE-Tango Club”: Planeamos actuar en algunos eventos del IE antes de las vacaciones del verano. Las personas que participan a las clases durante el año, podrán actuar en estas demostraciones.
· FESTIVAL de TANGO de SITGES- Julio 2007: ¡Tango y playa!!! Uno de los festivales más famosos del tango de Europa. Sitges es una ciudad pequeña cerca de Barcelona en donde organizan este maravilloso festival cada verano. El festival relativo a este año será entre el 16- 20 de julio. ¡Será una oportunidad agradable para que viajemos, bailemos y disfrutemos del verano!
